Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOS)
Arms length management organisations (ALMOS) are set up to manage properties separately from council control. ALMOS are favoured over housing transfers to housing associations since it allows the Councils to keep ownership of their housing stock.
ALMOS are now seen as the main method of meeting the 2010 target so long as they employ modern electronic surveying methods, capturing data on site, at source, thus avoiding back office re-keying of data.
Funding
Certain councils such as Newcastle, Camden, Gateshead, Sheffield, Easington and Warrington, will share in extra funding over the next few years. Announcing the allocation in Warrington, housing minister Keith Hill said: "This investment greatly contributes towards our target of making all council homes decent by 2010, and will enable local authorities to improve the quality of more than 185,000 dwellings."
This extra funding should be spent wisely - Decent Homes Surveyor provides the cost effective and expandable surveying solution needed to ensure this.
